  • If music be your food of love, read on...............

    Published 28/04/17

Warwick Hall has been busy these last few months with musical events. Amongst them were.........

The Warwickshire Symphony Orchestra held their first concert in the new Hall and in conjunction with the Warwick Foundation Symphony Orchestra and Canticum. They combined to perform Verdi’s Requiem to an audience of 400

Warwickshire Music held a very successful weekend of Music Makers with workshops and performances with a Windband Day and Singing Playgrounds, each finishing the day with a concert for family and friends. At the same time, another young group from Warwickshire Music were performing Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to a combined audience of over 400 in the Bridge House Theatre.

NCBF Logo.pngThe highlight of the April was hosting the finals of the National Concert Band Festival over the weekend of the 8 – 9 April. The weekend audience of over 1,300 enjoyed glorious sun shine as well as some of the UK’s finest wind ensembles. During the day, there was a different programme every 30 minutes from school bands on the Saturday and community bands on the Sunday. The Royal Armoured Corp and HMS Collingwood Big Band performed during the day while the gala concert on the Saturday evening included the Central Band of the Royal Air Force. Five school Foundation bands qualified for the national final (more than any other school in the country) and we emerged with an astonishing two Platinum and three Gold awards.

There has also been the Sing It Loud Community Choir and the Birmingham Christadelphian Choral Society who returned to the new hall after many previous events in the old Guy Nelson Hall.

Warwick Hall is the ideal venue for music events with fantastic aucustics and variety of seating arrangements.

  • Charity Sports Quiz Raises £7,000

    Published 09/02/17

A charity sports quiz held in Warwick Hall has raised £7000 for Myton Hospice and Jack's Rainbow. The event organiser, Des Reynolds, had hoped to set a Guinness World Record for the largest sports quiz ever held by attracting over 500 participants, but sadly that wasn't achieved. The event was still a resounding success though, with just over 400 descending on the Hall.

The overall quiz was won by the Warwick Sports under 23 team (pictured with organiser Des Reynolds), after a nail biting tie break with the Something clever in Latin team. in third place were Out of date Beer Vouchers, who also won the Guinness section of the quiz, having recently competed on TV quiz show Eggheads.

Sports stars including Nick Skelton and Dion Dublin asked recorded questions, and the quiz was attended  by former England cricket captain MJK Smith, and his son Neil, himself a former Warwickshire and England cricketer.

Organiser Des Reynolds said "What a fantastic night. It was obviously a shame not to cap it off by setting a world record, but we have had nothing but positive feedback from those thatattended. Thanks to all the sponsors, prize donators, helpers, the staff at Warwick School and Bridge House Theatre, and especially all those who attended. With a little more support from local schools and sports clubs we feel a future attempt could definitely succeed."
