Charity Sports Quiz Raises £7,000

A charity sports quiz held in Warwick Hall has raised £7000 for Myton Hospice and Jack's Rainbow. The event organiser, Des Reynolds, had hoped to set a Guinness World Record for the largest sports quiz ever held by attracting over 500 participants, but sadly that wasn't achieved. The event was still a resounding success though, with just over 400 descending on the Hall.

The overall quiz was won by the Warwick Sports under 23 team (pictured with organiser Des Reynolds), after a nail biting tie break with the Something clever in Latin team. in third place were Out of date Beer Vouchers, who also won the Guinness section of the quiz, having recently competed on TV quiz show Eggheads.

Sports stars including Nick Skelton and Dion Dublin asked recorded questions, and the quiz was attended  by former England cricket captain MJK Smith, and his son Neil, himself a former Warwickshire and England cricketer.

Organiser Des Reynolds said "What a fantastic night. It was obviously a shame not to cap it off by setting a world record, but we have had nothing but positive feedback from those thatattended. Thanks to all the sponsors, prize donators, helpers, the staff at Warwick School and Bridge House Theatre, and especially all those who attended. With a little more support from local schools and sports clubs we feel a future attempt could definitely succeed."
